The community gathered once again at Fairfield Hills on September 12 for the eighth annual Run 4 Hunger and Health, a tradition that blends athletic competition with a commitment to local charity. Hosted by the Knights of Columbus, the event drew sixty one finishers who tackled the 5K course to raise essential funds for two vital organizations, the FAITH Food Pantry and Newtown Youth and Family Services.
Matthew Rosa of Brookfield dominated the field this year, securing first place with an impressive finishing time of 20 minutes and 46 seconds. He was followed closely by Stefan Cirisoli of Naugatuck in second and hometown favorite Cody Gotthardt from Newtown, who claimed third. The competitive spirit remained high throughout the top ten, featuring strong performances from athletes across Danbury, New Fairfield, and Newtown. Notably, Laura Schramm of New Fairfield earned the title of top female finisher while placing eighth overall with a time of 24 minutes and 10 seconds.
Beyond the clock and the rankings, the day served as a heartfelt gesture of support for those facing food insecurity and families in need of social services. Event organizers including Hank Wasicki and Earl Spinelli from Knights of Columbus Council 185 worked alongside Candice Bohr, executive director of Newtown Youth and Family Services, to welcome participants to the starting line. Their combined efforts ensured that every step taken by the runners translated into tangible help for their neighbors in need.
